Nail of the Day: Essie’s ‘Brooch the Subject’
I think I’ve been itching for a classic nude polish for a year now, but somehow seemed to forget about it every time I’d go shopping. Could that be because a good nude does it’s job in not standing out? Porrssibly!
I picked up this kind of clean, sandy tan color about a week ago and was a little nervous at the thought of my hands looking like my nails dissapeared…but I quickly remembered how amazing amarixe (www.youtube.com/amarixe) looks with nude polish on- and luckily her skin tone is pretty similar to mine!
Here’s the verdict ladies (and gents?): The polish looks a bit lighter in person than pictured, assuring you that the contrast between this liquor and my pastey hands is not as harsh as it looks!

Natural Light, 2 coats
I think this color is clean, neutral and professional and would look even better on someone whos skin looks like they’ve seen the sun!
What do YOU guys think?

Nail of the Day: Essie’s ‘Raise Awareness’
Another pink polish?! YES. but I promise it’s worth it! This beautiful baby pink shade was solo star of Essie’s Raise Awareness collection this past October, Breast Cancer Awareness month! Erm- yes, it was the only shade in the “collection.” I apologize, because ‘baby pink’ doesn’t really give this shade justice. I’d say it’s more pink with a twist. The best thing about this polish is how vibrant it is for such a light color. Unlike other Essie pinks, this pink is potent in purple undertones, which appear most under unnatural light. This polish is extremely viscous, making each layer of application very thin, but since the color is so opaque, you really only need two coats of this baby!

Natural Light, 3 Coats
I however, slept on my hands before they were 100% dry, so i got a nice sheet imprint on my nails, which i later coated over with Raise Awareness once more followed by some always trusty Pro-Fx Quick Dry High Gloss Top Coat

Nail of the Day: Revlon’s “Emerald City”
I’ve been looking for a forrest green-something more exciting than many flat and pukey greens I’ve been seeing this fall- which is why I was so excited to find “Emerald City” in my local CVS. Upon my purchase I thought this polish seemed almost too good to be true! Unfortunately- I was right! To start, this polish is true to its finishing type, which is what Revlon establishes as ”Matte Suede.” Upon application, the polish completely loses all of it’s pretty shimmer and shine. Luckily my Pro-Fx Quick Dry High Gloss Top Coat did the trick in reviving the lovely color and shine to the polish, while adding a very glossy translucent layer! Another disappointment is the texture of this gloss- very disappointing! Does anyone else ever have texture problems with nail polish? Sometimes, no matter how perfectly even I apply a polish, the lacquer still dries with little bumps in it! I’m guessing it’s an aging issue. If so- that would explain the missing/rubbed off letters of my pretty new nail polish bottle!

natural light, 2 coats color, 2/3 coats top coat
Due to this semi dissatisfaction, the hunt is STILL on for the perfect forrest green to put me in the holiday mood! I’ve got my eyes peeled so stay tuned, polish princesses!

Nail of the Day: China Glaze’s “Something Sweet”
To understate: a very light, pastel pink is my all time FAVorite nail color. For a long time, I refused to sport any other color! A few months ago, I was a little hesitant to make the purchase of this polish: the color is bit duller, a bit more muted in the bottle than actually on the nail. Not to mention- I already have enough pinks to last me a year! Not too bright, this modest, cool pink tone leaves just what the name promises- a sweet touch to a dim fall day!

Natural Light, 3 coats
Love me some pink polish!!!!

Nail of the Day: Sinful Colors’ “UFO” over OPI’s “Siberian Nights”
Orange and Black aren’t the best of colors to work with when seeking to sport and fun and glitzy look for Halloween, so when i saw UFO in my local Rite Aid, i knew it was the perfect polish to achieve glam -not- ghoul!

as evidence of the beautiful Drama/Music porch, these photos were both taken in natural light
I had to use two coats of Siberian Nights to achieve the solid color shown in the bottle, then THREE coats of UFO to get ultimate glitz! Obviously the orange tint to UFO is almost unnoticeable over the dark plum of Siberian Nights, but it didn’t bother me ;). All over, I was very pleased with this look- that didn’t chip for four days!
Happy Belated Halloween, everyone!

Nail of the Day: Essie’s ‘Lady Like’
After almost two weeks without polish on my nails- all ten of my filanges were happy to see Essie’s new “Lady Like” from their Fall 2011 Brand New Bag Collection. What drew me to this polish was this color I have never seen before. This muted purple/pink would almost seem springy if there wasn’t such a heavy grey undertone. I put on three coats for ultimate opaqueness with this polish. A step up from a simple nude, this chilly color wins my approval.

What nail polish are you loving for fall?

My first posting! Shimmering Sands Review

I’ve heard a lot of hype about this triple threat eyeshadow Shimmering Sands by Cover Girl, mostly from Nikki Phillippi ( http://www.youtube.com/user/NikkiPhillippi ) so i decided to splurge the four bucks and try it out myself!

the soft pink surprisingly has a lot of sheen to it, which you wouldn’t be able to tell from looking at the palette itself. Overall, i thought it was a worth while purchase that makes for a simple, bright daytime look! =]
